Nothing is more provacative then having someone fm law enforcement say we should end the Drug War. I've been setting up speaking engagements for 7 yrs, and no matter who I promote to an organziation, they always come back to "hey, wait a minute: did you say you have a COP that will talk about drug legalization?" They are shocked but then they recover, and say "We want that person!" This doesn't mean that others (like myself, an air traffic controller and no law enforcement experience) can't talk about drug policy or be experts on the issue. But to move public opinion, to shake things up, we need the law enforcement community.
I invite people to join LEAP. You don't need to be a member of the criminal justice system. You can be a "friend of LEAP" like myself. There's no cost, we don't spam you with numerous requests for funding, and we do not share our membership list.
You can also help. We are always in need of volunteers. We need people to help with media coordination, with setting up engagements, with help setting up conference attendance by LEAP. And you never need to leave the privacy of your own home.
Another great place for people to help is thru blogging. You don't need to have your own blog...just help sell us by mentioning it on blogs. We would help you get going on this.
So, there are many easy opportuities to get involved with the reform movement.

Does anyone remember the Medical Marijuana bill? It's the federal bill that would have disallowed the feds from interfering with state's rights in legalizing medical marijuana. That bill died in committee because WE failed to support it. A lot of sick and suffering people were counting on us, and we let them down. The bill died in the discussion room, called "committee". So lacking was our support of this bill, it never left committee to go to the floor for a vote!

So, now I want to introduce you to a new bill, one I hope you will throw all of your support behind. This one, also a federal bill, allows patients legally using or growing marijuana to be able to state in a federal criminal court, that what they were doing was legal where they were doing it. Can you imagine being one of these sick and suffering people, probably at the end of your life, and get bused by the feds for something that's not even illegal, and then have to face the same consequences as a street-corner drug dealer? And be sentenced to longer terms than many rapists and murderers, which is what they get to spend their last months on earth with. And, the one thing they could say in court that would save them, they aren't allowed to say right now! Juries are angry after the fact! It would appear that the only ones who don't want marijuana users to defend themselves, are government-employed.

So, let's speak up this time and not let this important bill die in committee! Let's contact the committee members and our own Representatives in the House, and let's give them as much logical, educational material as we can, and at the same time, let's ask them to co-sponsor HR 4272!

In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court�s ruling in Raich earlier this year which permits the federal government to continue arresting and prosecuting medical marijuana patients and their caregivers even in states where medical use of marijuana is permitted, U.S. Rep.
