| CANNABIS HEMP IN HISTORY
(mj: from YHWH to Moses to Jesus, Thomas Jefferson, & You): Early Sumeria: "K(a)N(a)B(a)", the early Sumerian/Babylonian word for Cannabis hemp, entered the Indo-Semitic-European language family base, making it one of humankind's longest surviving root words. The ancient Israelites (Moses and his entourage) used, "sweet calamus", as part of the, "holy anointing oil", and for, "sweet incense", "after the art of the apothecary", or drugist, as per Exodus 25:6, 30:22-25, 35:8 & 28. Sweet calamus and, "sweet cane", are the same thing. They are both in the ancient Hebrew/Chaldee rendered as, "qaneh bosem, kaneh bosm (the "m" designating the plural, thus the singular, "kaneh-bos"), kannabos, & kannabus". Kaneh-bos was, according to some language experts, assimilated into the Scythian lexicon as, "cannabis", not unlike the Americanization of the French, "Beaux Arts", to, "Bozart", or the regional mispronounciation of the English, "creek", as, "crick", and, "Bar Harbor", as "Bahabah", Maine, or, "Wuss-tah, Mass", & etc. Breathing the smoke of the sweet incense was required for the ancient Jewish formal worship of "Y(a)H(a)W(e)H", or "Y(a)H(o)W(a)H". Genesis 1:11,12 &29 say that the "herb yielding seed" is GOOD, and is for our CONSUMPTION. 1Kings 3:3 is an account of Solomon burning incense in, "high places". The most commonly used ancient Hebrew/Chaldee word for, "place", is, "m(e)qomah", and means not only a place, spot or standing, but also a, "CONDITION OF THE MIND", not unlike the classical Greek, "topos", place, spot, where, POSITION & CONDITION, as per Dr. James Strong, compiler of the most widely used exhaustive concordance of the Bible. The word "smoke" appears more than 50 times in the Bible, and the word "incense" more than 100 times. Why is it that, "the Spirit of the Lord" & "the glory of the Lord", were so often associated with the smoke of sweet incense, and the breathing of said smoke?! What is being "filled with the Spirit" really?! Today a member of the c4c discussion group asked this question - "Anyway, I have a question, probably been asked before, but her goes - Besides Genesis 1:11 & 30-31, does anyone know any other possible references to cannabis in the bible?" Below is my response. Coming from an almost ultra conservative background, and not having yet done the research, I am unaware of any other instances besides the Creation verses that you stated below. There are other places where the gift of the plants is again mentioned, such as when the flood receded, God reaffirmed the giving of this gift to mankind to Noah. I realize that a lot of the religious folks in our subculture identify cannabis in a number of verses, but as I said, I have not done the research myself. I can say that approaching Christians from this angle, usually hurts our position. Many times when an activist tries to convince Christians of things like Moses not in seeing a burning bush, but smoking a j instead, they automatically reject the notion and the activist ends up losing considerable credibility on the issue with the Christian that they are talking too. Fortunately though, we don't need to prove that cannabis is mentioned in the Bible or even used by anyone in the Bible. To borrow a phrase from our Unique Positioning Statement that I am working on for the site, "ChristiansForCannabis believes that the laws that prohibit marijuana/cannabis are immoral and unjust and the Christian support of these laws to be in violation of God's word. We base our position on: the inerrancy of the Bible, God's creatorship of the earth and all that is in it, including the seed bearing plant we call cannabis or marijuana; Jesus's command to not judge anything before the appointed time and to love as he loved; and how love does no harm to its neighbor. Thus ChristiansForCannabis is dedicated to serving in whatever capacity God chooses, to end the prohibition of cannabis and the war on drugs as a whole." (how does that sound btw?) We serve a wonderful and just God. He loved us enough to sacrfice his son for us...why is it so hard to believe that he wants to reject no one? To know of all things is merely a reference to having a greater awareness, opened senses, as referred to in Isaiah 61:1-3, the testimony of Jesus, recorded in Luke 4:18-19, the �Pneuma� of prophecy. The first reference to incense in the Bible is, �And this is The Offering which ye shall take...oil for the light, SPICES for Anointing oil (shemen), & for SWEET INCENSE.� (EXODUS 25:3&6). These words are found again in Exodus 35:8&28, leading some to argue the samw spices are used for SWEET INCENSE as for anointing oil, and not the same as the �perfume, a confection�, as found in Exodus 30:34-35. This perfume is a �confection� (Heb., �roqach, thinly aromatic, as opposed to �q(e)toreth bosm�, which contains �Kaneh Bosm�. Q(e)toreth is a fumigation of incense in a close place that could drive out the occupants. Q(e)toreth means TO SMOKE, i.e. turn into fragrance by FIRE (Holy Spirit & Fire), especially as an act of worship.
